Oraverse-rapidly reverses the effects of numbing.

Technology and Anesthesia

Anesthesia Options
Oraverse

Oraverse is the first & only product of its kind to rapidly reverse the effects of your local dental anesthetic. Talk, smile & drink normally in about half the time.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide (N2O), also known as laughing gas, is inhaled through a mask worn over the nose. The gas helps a patient relax and reduces the gag reflex. Many of our patients who experience some anxiety in the dental chair find nitrous oxide beneficial. Nitrous oxide does not cause the patient to fall asleep, and the patient can drive home independently after the appointment.

IV Sedation
(New Service Offered!)

For our anxious patients, when nitrous oxide just isn’t enough, Dr. Smith is now offering a new service, IV sedation or twilight sleep.  Dr. Amy Barricklow will come to our office and administer the sedation for our patients over 8 years of age.  If you have any questions regarding this service please give our office a call at 419-332-5407.

Oral Sedation

Many people delay needed dental care because of anxiety or fear. These patients may benefit from conscious oral sedation. If you are a candidate for conscious sedation, Dr. Smith will give you a pill to take one hour before your appointment. The pill will quickly relax and calm you. You will need a driver that day. We will monitor your vital signs while you relax completely – may even dozing off - during treatment. You will be able to talk to us when necessary, but most likely won’t remember your appointment. Conscious sedation calms anxious patients and allows any patient to complete multiple treatments, with less stress, in just one appointment.

We welcome new patients! Achieving and maintaining optimal oral health is our goal for all of our patients. We always take time to get to know new patients because when we understand how they feel about dentistry, what their expectations are, and why they're here, we can offer personalized, targeted care. All new patients spend time with our hygienist for a complete oral evaluation, including full mouth X-rays, a periodontal disease exam, and an overall oral health screening. A thorough assessment of your oral condition will help us plan effective treatment.

Cleaning/Oral Cancer Screening

During twice-a-year cleanings, we will thoroughly clean and polish your teeth, monitor your gums for signs of periodontal disease, and take full X-rays annually. We'll also evaluate signs of tooth wear or decay, and Dr. Smith will conduct an oral cancer screening.

Sealants

As you run your tongue across the chewing surfaces of your molars, notice the natural grooves or crevices. Keeping these areas clean can be a problem, so Dr. Smith may recommend sealants. Most often, we suggest sealants for children's back teeth. The simple process involves painting a clear material onto the chewing surface of teeth to reduce the potential for decay.

Fluoride

Dr. Smith also suggests in-office fluoride treatments to ward off tooth decay in younger patients. Professional treatments contain a much higher level of fluoride than over-the-counter toothpastes and mouth rinses. A fluoride treatment takes a few minutes and offers lasting benefits.

New Patients Welcome

Restorative Care

Composite Fillings

Dr. Smith tints composite resin to blend with a smile, and with this method, fillings practically disappear. Tooth-colored fillings do not contain mercury, either, so patients can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with safe, healthy, natural-looking restorations. .

Crowns

A crown, also called a cap, is a custom-made restoration that fits over a tooth compromised by decay or damage. Crowns restore function, beauty, and strength to a tooth that my otherwise require extraction. A crown requires two visits. First, Dr. Smith will make an impression of your tooth, then prepare the tooth and attach a temporary. A dental lab technician will create your custom crown offsite. When the new restoration arrives in our office, you'll come in for a follow-up visit. Dr. Smith will permanently affix the crown, and you can then resume eating and smiling with confidence.

Bridgework

A bridge can replace one or more missing teeth in a row. Dr. Smith works with a trusted lab to fabricate custom bridgework. The bridge is held in place by crowns, which we attach to teeth on either side of the gap. Bridgework can be permanent or removable, and many patients prefer dental implants to bridges.

Dentures

We create full-arch dentures and partial dentures to give patients a beautiful, complete smile. With a trusted lab nearby, repairs and adjustments can be made quickly and efficiently. We also offer dental implants as a tooth replacement option that closely mimics nature.

Dental Implants

When a patient has lost a tooth due to trauma, decay, or infection, a permanent implant offers a solid, lasting replacement. Dr. Smith works closely with an oral surgeon, who can insert a small post at the site of the missing tooth. Dr. Smith will then design and order your custom crown, matching the color, size, and shape of your natural teeth. He will permanently attach the crown to the implant post, restoring your beautiful smile.

Periodontal Disease Treatments

When gums recede from around a tooth or bleeding occurs during brushing, a patient may have periodontal disease. We offer non-surgical therapy for gum disease called scaling and root planing. Often, follow-up periodontal maintenance visits are scheduled at three or four-month intervals so that we can help you maintain healthy gums. Gum disease is the primary cause of tooth loss for American adults, and it has also been linked to diabetes complications, increased risk of stroke, heart attack, respiratory problems, osteoporosis, and low birth weight.

Endodontics (Root Canal)

Extensive damage from trauma or infection may cause a tooth's nerve to die. This poses a serious risk for infection. Dr. Smith may recommend root canal therapy to preserve the tooth and the bite. The only other option would be extraction. A root canal involves replacing the pulp inside a tooth with manmade material. Modern tools and anesthesia make root canal therapy comfortable and effective in most cases.

Extractions

On occasion, tooth extraction is necessary. Dr. Smith can extract most teeth in our office. Following the procedure, we will be happy to assist in the restoration of your smile with an implant, bridge, or denture.

Invisible Braces

Having a confident smile can change everything. And Invisible Braces makes the decision easy, because you can get a stunning smile without most people even noticing you're going through treatment.  So start on the right track today, and find out more about Invisible Braces.

TMJ and Snoring

Pain in the jaw, chronic headaches, and many other symptoms may result from misalignment of the TMJ (temporomandibular joint). When the jaw joints are not properly aligned, nerves and muscles are affected, and this creates pain. It can also stimulate bruxism, the condition of grinding teeth. Dr. Smith offers NTI-tss appliances and other non-surgical treatments to correct TMJ dysfunction.

He also offers snoring appliances to treat mild to moderate snoring. Click here to read about Silent Nite.

Athletic Mouthguards

As an experienced medical professional, Dr. Smith knows the importance of preventing injuries. He is pleased to provide free protective athletic mouthguards to the Fremont Ross football team and to his patients of record.

Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Smith enjoys providing dental care for your entire family, including children as young as three years old. Learning proper oral hygiene habits as a child offers lifetime benefits. Dental education and preventive care, including sealants and fluoride, ensure a healthy mouth and a beautiful smile. We ask that a parent accompany children to our office and remain in our reception room during treatment.

Teeth Whitening

Many effective commercial products are available in the health and beauty aisles of your local drugstore. However, if you want professional teeth whitening, schedule a visit with us. Our custom, clear plastic liners fit snugly over teeth to optimize the effect of professional-grade whitening. With two additional office visits and two weeks of home bleaching at bedtime, your teeth will become dramatically whiter. To maintain your beautifully whitened teeth, simply repeat the above procedure one night a month! It's that easy.

Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Smith offers custom-made, porcelain veneers to transform a smile by masking imperfections. Chips, stains, cracks, slight misalignments, and other little problems disappear beneath gorgeous, light-reflecting porcelain, designed and shaped to complement your unique appearance. If a new smile would boost your esteem and improve your appearance, call for a cosmetic consultation with Dr. Smith.

Invisible Braces

Invisible Braces is the secret to straighter teeth without the embarrassment or discomfort of traditional braces. The orthodontic program includes a series of custom-made, clear acrylic aligners. Simply change the aligner approximately every two weeks, come in for evaluations, and you'll soon enjoy a straighter, more attractive smile. Completely removable, Invisible Braces aligners are the orthodontia of choice for image-conscious adults and teens.

Mini Dental Implant-Retained Dentures

If you suffer with loose, slipping, or ill-fitting dentures, Dr. Smith may recommend mini dental implants to secure your prosthetic. Mini implants are small titanium posts placed, in our office, into a few sockets left by missing teeth. Bone naturally fuses to the biocompatible posts to create anchors that act like teeth roots. Dentures may be created or retrofitted with implant snaps so that they attach firmly to the mini implants.

This minimally invasive procedure comes with many benefits:

Technology
Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera projects images from inside your mouth onto a chairside monitor. The detailed images help us examine your mouth, teeth, and dental work for accurate diagnosis. Dr. Smith uses the images on the monitor to point out areas of concern and to clearly explain and illustrate your treatment options.

Air Abrasion

We often use air abrasion to remove tooth decay. Unlike a drill, air abrasion blasts a stream of compressed air and tiny abrasive particles at the tooth. These particles gently work away decay, and we then suction it away. Usually, patients don’t require numbing agents with this gentle process, because air abrasion emits no vibration, heat, or sound.

DentalVibe

Knowing how much patients dread the shot that comes with dental work, Dr. Smith has found the DentalVibe, which makes the shot virtually painless! The DentalVibe is an innovative new device which will stimulate the gum tissue with vibration causing the brain to negate the pain from receiving the shot, ensuring comfort for the patient.

Digital X-rays

Digital X-rays are significantly faster than conventional X-rays and reduce radiation exposure by up to 90 percent. The images are immediately viewable on a chairside monitor for review. We can enlarge the images, making it easier for Dr. Smith to show you his findings and explain his recommendations. Digital X-rays are also easy to store and electronically submitted to specialist or insurance providers.

DIAGNOdent

DIAGNOdent is a small, portable laser that examines the surface of back teeth and alerts us with an audible signal when it locates a cavity. It provides a numerical readout indicating the size of each cavity. DIAGNOdent aids in early detection and treatment of dental issues. Early detection is key to maintaining your dental health and stunning smile.

Velscope

Our practice has purchased a state-of-the-art device called the VELscope Oral Cancer Screening System. It is a diagnostic tool that will allow us to be able to diagnose oral cancer in its earlier stages.

Along with our conventional oral screening exam, which includes looking inside your mouth for lesions that might be visible to the naked eye, we can use the VELscope to literally see beneath the surface to detect potentially dangerous growths we might have missed otherwise.

Oral Sedation
  • Improved denture stabilization
  • No need for suction or adhesives
  • No need for traditional implant surgery
